When ‘Spiderman 3’ was finished and released in theatres many of us believed that it was the end of the series. At the end of the move Peter’s best friend – Harry Osbourne (a.k.a Goblin Jr.) was killed off and he got the girl (Mary Jane Watson). What more could there be to the storyline? Director Sam Raimi claims that there is still more work to do and we can expect to see more of the Spidey superhero.
Tobey Maguire has already signed on for not just a fourth – but also fifth movie installment to the series. The only person they are waiting to sign on now is Kirsten Dunst who played the love interest. She has made several statements that she would love to continue – but why isn’t she signing?
Kirsten, I’d love to work with her again,” Raimi said in an interview, “I hope she’ll be written into it. I couldn’t imagine making one without her, and I think she’s an important part of the movies.”
So what can we expect the new movies to be about? “I’m really excited about Spider-Man, and I’m hoping to direct it,” said Raimi. “I don’t have a script yet, but production would start probably by March of 2010, I’m guessing. It sounds like a long time away, but we need a script first, and a lot of pre-production has to take place.”
He did hint that the two movies will be closely connected. In fact there has been talks of the two being made back to back the way “Lord of the Rings” was. “If Tobey and me, and all the producers, like the story for two pictures and Amy wanted to do it, then we would do it. It just hasn’t been written yet.”
