‘Superbad’ Is Well…Super Bad
‘SuperBad’ is another one of those, let’s be a high college student with nothing on our minds but hot girls and partying all night. But that doesn’t stop anyone from watching it. It seems that both critics and movie-goers alike had a mutual interest in the movie. It became obvious when it rose to the top of the box office.
The first half-hour of Superbad is the best part of the movie. Getting to know these characters and being introduced to their raunchy sense of humor is pure joy. The movie falters, though, once the characters are separated. Fogell becomes embroiled in a wild ride-along with the two cops, which goes on for far too long and becomes predictable.
Also chewing up too much screen time is a secondary party that Seth and Evan find themselves at when it becomes clear they will need to score booze some other way. While plenty of funny things happen during both segments, the main plot meanders for far too long and grinds momentum to a halt.
Although Superbad often runs the risk of being a one-note joke, there’s still enough heart to the story and appealing characters to highly recommend it. Superbad certainly isn’t on par with other recent Apatow productions such as Knocked Up and The 40 Year-Old Virgin, but it’s still plenty of good, dirty fun.
Personally after being the hundreth movie with the same story line and the same jokes it gets old. To me it has become one of those movies that you stare at blankly and wish that the minutes would go by faster.
