Paramount Bringing “G.I. Joe” To Life
Paramount is happy with the success that “Transformers” brought them and because of they have decided to bring to life yet another of the 1980’s cartoon that everyone loved. “G.I. Joe” is currently in production – but will be ready for its summer 2009 release and will bring to life many of the heroes and villains that we all loved.
Stephen Sommers will be directing the movie and has said that Snake Eyes will be brought into the movie and will be played by Ray Park. We all remember Park from his role as Darth Maul in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”. Snake Eyes was a big character in the “G.I. Joe” series according to Sommers.
“He’s the world’s greatest ninja, but he’s also next-generation. He’s not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he’s pulling out his Glock,” Sommers said. “His chief nemesis is arguably the world’s other great ninja, Storm Shadow. The two grew up together, were blood brothers and now are mortal enemies.”
It seems that Channing Tatum will also be starring in “G.I. Joe” as Duke – the over G.I. Joe. Channing just finished with the Iraq war drama “Stop-Loss” and was apprehensive about stepping in to yet another war movie. However, he did state that “G.I. Joe” is not the typical or dramatic war movie.
“‘G.I. Joe’ is now a war film,” Channing said during an interview. “I was afraid it was going to be a real war film, and actually it’s nothing like that– it’s ‘X-Men’ with ‘Mission Impossible.’” Other actors to join the force are Dennis Quaid who will be playing Commander Hawk and Sienna Miller who will be playing Lady Cobra. Both are excited to join the cast and have admitted that it is definitely true to the comics.
“‘G.I. Joe” goes back to when I was a kid, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to be a part of this,” said Dennis Quaid. “It’s a huge popcorn action movie, and a little bit of a cartoon in a sense. The way it’s going to be done… it’s going to be really exciting.”
