‘National Treasure: Book Of Secrets’ Makes A Good Sequel

National Treasure: Book of Secrets is almost as good as the first movie. Jon Turteltaub has brought back all of the character from the first movie (Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight, and Harvey Keitel) and has even introduced some new character (Ed Harris and Helen Mirren).

This time Ben Gates, Riley, Patrick, and Abigail are out to clear the name of Thomas Gates (ancestor of Ben and Patrick Gates). There is a page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth that shows that Thomas Gates had a hand in the assassination of one of the world’s greatest president – Abraham Lincoln.

On the way to clearing their lineage Ben and his trusty followers break into Buckingham Palace, the Oval Office, and will even go as far as to kidnap the President of the United States. All the clues reveal hidden myths and lead them to one of the greatest discoveries of all time – The City Of Gold!

Fans of the first movie will not be disappointed. The action, clues, and humor that we loved about the first movie can all be found in this one. As each clue is found you will find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat trying to put the pieces together and discover before the bad guys figure it out.

Nicolas Cage does a great job playing the smart and clever Benjamin Gates and does a great job in staying true to the way he was in the first movie. Ed Harris who plays the ‘bad guy who gets his due in the end’ does a great job. Of course we expect no less of him. Helen Mirren (playing Ben’s mother) also does a great job and shows where Ben gets some of his spunk from.

The only thing that could have been improved was the last bit of the plotline. Throughout the movie Ben is trying to clear his ancestor’s name. By the end of the movie he seemed to have done that – but it leaves you to wonder exactly how he did that. It seemed that some of the plotline was not pieced together as well as it could have been.
