‘Panda’ And ‘Zohan’ Battle It Out In Weekend Box Office

Two movies battled it out for the number one spot in the box office this weekend. Jack Black’s “Kung-Fu Panda” and Adam Sandler’s “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan” vied for the attention of viewers around the country and both were bringing in high numbers over the weekend.

“Kung Fu Panda” pulled in $60 million in ticket sales to debut as the weekend’s No. 1 movie, while Sandler’s salon romp “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan” opened in second place with $40 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Leonardo DiCaprio To Star In ‘Atari’

Leonardo DeCaprio will be starring in the new Paramount Pictures film ‘Atari’. The film written by Craig Sherman and Brian Hecker is a biopic that follows the life of Nolan Bushnell – the creator of Atari.

Bushnell founded Atari in 1972 with the help of Ted Dabney. Together the two men brought arcade games to life and paved the way for home computers and videogame consoles. They created games like Pong and Atari 2600.

‘Kung-Fu Panda’ Fun For All Ages

DreamWorks released their animated family film – “Kung-Fu panda” – over the weekend and the children as well as the adults love every minute of it. The movie is full of humor that helps to bring in not only young children – but also adults and to keep them laughing the whole way through.

‘The Mandarin’ To Be Nemesis In ‘Iron Man’ Sequel

Director Jon Favreau is pleased with the reaction that he received from ‘Iron Man’ and the fact that it was able to hold the number one spot in the box office for one to two weeks. Now he is already making plans for the sequel and has given us a few hints as to the superhero’s new enemy will be.

Adam Sandler Shakes Things Up In ‘Zohan’

Adam Sandler’s new movie “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” contains a script that was written not only by Adam Sandler himself – but also by Robert Smigel (Insult Comic Dog) , and Judd Apatow (“The 40-Year-Old Virgin). Naturally you can imagine the amount of hilarious antics that this new comedy can bring to the floor.

Universal Studios Caught On Fire

Universal Studios caught on fire over the weekend and destroyed a large part of the back lot. According to investigation reports the fire was caused by a blowtorch that was left on the roof of the building. Roofers working on the building had used the blowtorch earlier Sunday in order to heat the asphalt shingles to put on the roof. They had finished at 3 a.m. and stood watch for one hour before taking a break.

“Sex And The City” Pulls In $55.7 Mil Opening Weekend

Producer’s fears that the rise in prices all over the country would hurt its chances to score big at the box office will be happy to know that there was nothing to be scared of. Gal pals Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall reprised their roles from their hit series “Sex and the City” and came out with a movie that fans have been waiting years for.

MTV Movie Awards Show

‘Transformer’ took home the best film trophy at the MTV Movie Awards over the weekend. Johnny Depp won two for best villain and best comedic performance. Not long after the show had begun the Universal Studios had caught on fire and was extinguished.

While there was no mention of the fire, there was definitely smoke during the over-the-top ceremony: Presenters Seth Rogan and James Franco, stars of the upcoming stoner comedy “Pineapple Express,” pretended to smoke marijuana before handing out the popcorn trophy for new category of best summer movie so far.
